 Volunteer
Have you ever wanted a farm animal of your very own but don't have the room or the funds? Now you can work with horses, cows, pigs, sheep, goats, llamas, turkeys, chickens and a donkey, and enjoy loving them at our place. They all need your attention and they give lots of unconditional love back to you. Some of the volunteer opportunities at The Gentle Barn include:
· Horse Groomer/Walker: Monday – Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Brush and walk horses. No experience necessary, we will train you. Note: There is a 4-week training process for Horse Groomers/Walkers and we are looking for people to commit at least one day a week. · Cow Hugger: Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Note: There is a 4-week training process for Cow Huggers and we are looking for people to commit at least one day a week. · Sunday Docent: Sundays from 10:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Interact with the animals and visitors. · Barnyard Buddy: Shifts available Monday – Friday. Spend time with the pigs, goats, sheep, llamas, chickens, turkeys, and peacock. Note: There is a 4-week training process for Barnyard Buddies and we are looking for people to commit at least one day a week.

If you are interested in volunteering, please read the Volunteer Requirements and Applications section below. Volunteers must be 14 years or older. People under 18 must have a parent's signature on our volunteer paperwork.
Volunteer Requirements and Applications The way to get started is to first read through the Volunteer Requirements document and get to know what kind of commitment we will need from you. If you are comfortable with the commitment, then fill out the Adult Volunteer Application and return it to us any Sunday between 10-2. Once we receive the volunteer paper work we will review it to see if there seems to be a good fit. If all looks good on paper, then we will give you a call to get to know you better. If after we chat, it still looks like the fit is good, then the volunteer coordinator will call you to set up your orientation. A parent must accompany all volunteers between the ages of 14-17 during their initial visit – no volunteers under 14, please. There’s always work to do to help the animals and keep them happy. Membership Plans Available: • Individual yearly membership - $25 Sponsor an Animal Have you ever wanted a pig or a special cow friend but you just didn’t have the space or perhaps you just didn’t want to scoop the poop? Sponsoring a Gentle Barn animal is your solution! By sponsoring a Gentle Barn animal, not only do you create a special relationship with an animal friend, but you also help The Gentle Barn continue to do our work with abused animals and at-risk kids. We will send you regular updates on your animal friend so your relationship will grow over time. Please visit our Virtual Barn to see the full list of the animals available for sponsorship. FAQs for Gentle Barn Animal Sponsorships May I visit my sponsored animal friend? The Gentle Barn is open to all visitors from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm every Sunday. Please come and visit your special friend, and all the other wonderful animals at The Gentle Barn also. Does my animal friend have more than one sponsor? Because the animals at The Gentle Barn have been rescued from cruelty, abuse and neglect, many of them have special care needs, including costly veterinary expenses. Since it is often too costly for one person to fund the care of a special-needs animal, we must provide for many of these needy individuals with the help of multiple generous sponsors like you. Your animal sponsorship creates a special bond between you and your chosen animal. As a sponsor, your contribution not only provides for your adopted friend, but it also goes into a general fund that supports all The Gentle Barn's rescued animals and the work of The Gentle Barn. The more sponsors we have, the more animals we can rescue, rehabilitate and have available to help heal kids. Thank you! Your generous support makes this work possible. How are sponsorship donations determined? Sponsorship donations are based on the average monthly basic care costs for each type of animal. For example, it costs more to provide for basic care for a horse than it does for a chicken and we try to set the donation amount accordingly. Will I receive updates on my adopted animal? There are several ways we help you keep in touch with your special animal. Not only do we send weekly e-mail newsletters to keep you up to date on all our news, but several times per year we will send you a special update on your chosen animal with all the latest news and a fun photo of your friend. If you “like” us on Facebook, you will see daily reports of all the amusing and important news as it happens here at The Gentle Barn. Can I give a sponsorship as a gift to another person? Yes! Sponsorship of an animal makes a wonderful gift for birthdays, holidays, anniversaries etc. We will be more than happy to create the appropriate acknowledgement for the gift recipient to let them know who the thoughtful person was that gave such a compassionate gift. To give a gift sponsorship please e-mail april@gentlebarn.org and we will put it all together for you! How do I get started? Thank you for your interest in sponsoring a Gentle Barn animal! If you visit our virtual barn you can choose which animal you would like to sponsor. Each animal has a sponsorship amount, which is indicated under their bio, by their photo. If you click on Subscribe under the chosen animal's bio, you can set up a monthly sponsorship. When we receive a sponsorship donation, we will send you a packet with the sponsored animals photo, bio and a certificate of sponsorship! Sponsor a Group of Children For a $400 donation, you can sponsor a group of children to come to The Gentle Barn to learn kindness and compassion. A donation of $4,000 enables a group of children to participate in our ten-month Peace Enhancement program. These children then become protectors instead of abusers for the rest of their lives.
